Shooting Blind: Photographs by the Visually Impaired

This large scale project by a group of photographers with visual impairments active in New York City is organized by the Aperture Foundation. Guggenheim Fellow and Bessie Award winner Cathy Weis was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1989, and during that time began exploring the partnering of dance and video. The New York Times hailed the "dazzling video-dance images and belly-laugh humor," noting "the heart of Calm as Custard is a conversation with a vibrant and thoughtful artist."

Filmmaker John R. Killacky presents "Crip Shots: a collection of Shorts" Panel discussion, screening and reception for five remarkable short films about individuals who defy expectations of what it means to be disabled. The program includes Killacky’s “Crip Shots”; “Dreaming Awake” and “Holding On”; Karina Epperlein’s “Phoenix Dance”; and Betsy Bayha’s “Outsider: the Life and Art of Judith Scott.”

The Southwest Conference on Disability has opened the call for papers for the 2006 annual conference to be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center on October 4–6. The theme for this year’s conference is “Living Successfully in the Community: Building Partnerships to Increase Participation.”

The annual Southwest Conference on Disability, now in it's ninth year, draws several hundred participants from the advocacy, academic, policy, non-profit and service provider communities from throughout the United States and abroad. The goal of the conference is to provide a forum for what we have in common and how we can create an agenda that goes beyond a particular perspective, group or disability. More information on types of sessions and proposal submission guidelines can be found on the conference web site:
