Attention Artists!

2004 Annual Southwest Conference
on Disability:
Creating Common Ground

Seeking Graphic Image

$250 Honorarium Offered for Selected Work

This is an open call inviting artists who have a disability to submit an image to serve as the visual theme for the 2004 Annual Southwest Conference on Disability, to be held at the Albuquerque Wyndham Hotel, September 29 – October 1, 2004.

All submissions must be conceptually related to the theme “Creating Common Ground.”

“…We focus too often on what divides us.  At the 2004 Southwest Conference on Disability, we will examine what we have in common, and how we can create a mutual agenda that goes beyond a particular perspective, group or disability.   In addition, a special mini-theme will explore health-related aspects of disability, including promoting the health of people with disabilities, assessing the impact of disability on health, and evaluating health and disability.”

There are no restrictions on size or media, but work must lend itself to both full-color and single-color reproduction.

Artists are welcome to submit more than one image for consideration.    Only one image will be selected by the Conference Planning Committee for use at the 2004 conference.

The artwork will be reproduced in the form of a postcard included in registration packets for all individuals attending the Conference.  The image may be used on additional conference materials, including but not limited to print materials, tote bags, etc.  The artist whose image is selected will receive a $250.00 honorarium for use of his/her work and 150 complementary copies of the postcard reproduction.  In addition, the artist will receive one complementary registration for The 2004 Southwest Conference on Disability.

By submitting the work, the artist agrees to any and all uses of the image, if selected, on conference materials and give-away items produced for the event. The artist understands that the conference organizers will not offer any products for sale containing this image.  The artist agrees to display of the original work during the conference and may, at his/her discretion, offer the image for sale during the event.  Following the 2004 conference, any and all rights related to use of the selected work revert to the artist.

Submission guidelines:

  • A brief description of your history/background as an artist

  • A slide or good quality color photograph of the work

  • A black and white reproduction (xerox copy of color image is fine)

  • Description of the work:  Size, media

  • Artist’s Name, address, phone number

 Deadline:             November 30, 2003
