What is VSA arts of New Mexico?

VSA arts of New Mexico is a non-profit organization dedicated to making the arts accessible to youth and adults with disabilities. It serves people of all ages with all types of developmental and acquired disabilities VSA arts of New Mexico is an affiliate of VSA arts, (formerly Very Special Arts) an international, nonprofit organization founded in 1974 by Jean Kennedy Smith.

What kinds of programs do you offer?

VSA arts of NM offers three core programs: the Enabled Arts Center, the organizational hub, offering a studio arts program for persons with disabilities, aged 14 and over. The Buen Viaje Dancers, made up of persons with and without disabilities is a touring dance company, and Arts Accessibility Initiatives, providing leadership, technical assistance, advocacy and resources to assist in developing and implementing accessible arts programming.

Where are you located?

Where are you located? VSA arts of NM offices and the Enabled Arts Center are currently located at 4904 4th St. NW on the east side of the street, north of Griegos.

Is it possible to visit VSA arts of NM and the Enabled Arts Center?

Yes, please call345-2872, ext. 18 to schedule a tour, or attend one of the popular events for the general public such as the Holiday Arts Hop ‘n Roll or an Artscrawl Opening.

Is it possible to purchase your artwork and crafts?

VSA arts of NM has a gallery at the Enabled Arts Center where its artwork and craft items can be seen and purchased.

Can artists from the community display their art at the gallery?

At times, gallery shows have contained art from the disabled community in New Mexico and the United States in addition to works by Enabled Arts Center Apprentice Artists. Opportunities will be listed in the VSA arts of NM newsletter and in local print media.

What can I d o to support VSA arts of NM?

a. Volunteer in the studio, in the office, as a community member on a board committee to help with a special event

b. Make a tax-deductible contribution. VSA arts of NM is a non-profit organization that depends on corporate and individual gifts as well as grants and earned income to carry out its mission. In-kind gifts are also welcome.
