BUEN VIAJE DANCERS A
company composed of dancers with and without disabilities, the Buen Viaje
Dancers redefine dance as an expressive art form for all
bodies. Buen
Viaje means good journey in
Spanish. Founded in 1984, the Dancers
provide a good journey for their audiences and serve as VSA arts of New
Mexico’s performing arts ambassadors.
Buen Viaje offers modern dance performances, workshops, and
residencies throughout the state and nation.
The Dancers are year-round artists-in-residence at the VSA arts
Center of New Mexico and have long-term residency collaborations with
Albuquerque area schools and AmeriCorps. The company is featured in two
nationally distributed videos: the
Rocky Mountain Emmy Award-winning Opening
Doors, produced by local PBS affiliate KNME-TV, and Opening
Doors: Dancing with Disabilities,
made possible by a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts.
Recently the group was invited to perform in two international festivals,
the 1999 International Art and Soul Festival in Los Angeles and the 2001 Global
Dance Fest in Albuquerque ("one of the most spectacular theater events
this viewer has experienced in New Mexico"…Jennifer Noyer,
Albuquerque Journal). The Buen Viaje Dancers seek out alternative
performance spaces and meet with rave reviews in training and conference
settings. Under the artistic direction of
Jill Pribyl, the Dancers are co-sponsored by the City of Albuquerque’s
Therapeutic Recreation Programs. Individuals and businesses are urged to designate
tax-deductible contributions to support the Buen
Viaje Dancers. |
