Yes, you have touched on a point that many wonder about. I believe that there....no - I KNOW there are ways of drumming up funds for ANY cause without exploiting the very people you mean to support, and it can be done without furthering their isolation and stigmatation by inappropriate means. The MDA Telethon is rife with negativism and victimization by words, action, metaphor, and much more.
I don't think you have to give up receiving well-meant financial gifts in order to uphold further progress of the Disability Movement and Culture. It simply must be done a whole other way.
